oil on canvas 24" X 20" signed lower left. Tyler's artistic style is vivid and poetic. His paintings from 1877 & 1878,though rare, are of such high quality that they are easily compared to some of the finest works by Francis Silva and Fitz Hugh Lane. No aspect of maritime life escaped Tyler's attention. In addition to painting all types of boats,he painted a variety of seamen, coastal scenes and seascapes. From 1900 to 1930,Tyler traveled each year to Newport,Rhode Island, where he painted the annual America's Cup Race. The artist exhibited yearly at the National Academy from 1880-1906. Having lived in Greenwich, CT for most of his life, he later moved to Pelham, N.Y. in 1931. Listed in 28 Book References
