oil on canvas 8 1/2" X 9 1/4" titled on the reverse East River PROVENANCE: Marbella Gallery,NYC Mrs. Eliot Clark, Charlottesville, Va. Clark was a National Academician. Elected NA 1944 EXHIBITED: National Academy 1899-1950;Boston Art Club; NYWC; Doll & Richards, Boston; PAFA 1915-24 Corcoran Gallery; Hammer Gallery,NYC and many others in the U.S. The artist studied in Europe painting in Paris and Giverny. He returned to the U.S. in 1906 and continued to paint showing the influence of Whistler, whose work he had seen in London. MEMBER: National Academy; Salmagundi Club; American Water Color club; Allied Artists of America. His later landscapes show a movement away from impressionism toward a realistic treatment. Clark moved to Kent,Ct. in 1922 and was member of the Kent art colony.
