oil on canvas 12" x 16" signed Herzog lower left. title inscribed on the stretcher. Herzog made a trip to Norway in 1855. This trip had a particular impact on the artist and his life's work as an artist, and resulted in a large body of work that depicted Norway and the Fjord region. Herzog studied in Dusseldorf with Johann Wilhem Schirmer and then with the renowned Norwegian landscape painter Hans Gude His ability soon attracted European royalty,Queen Victoria and Czar Alexander II were among his clients. In 1869 Herzog emigrated to America,choosing Philadelphia for his home. EXHIBITED:
