Evelyn Metzger studied at Vassar College with Clarence Chatterton.She studied at the Art Students League with George Bridgman and Rafael Soyer. Metzger's most impressive paintings focus on the urban oasis close to her home and heart-Central Park. Through her keen eye, vivid brushwork and dramatic execution, Metzger creates a complex, absorbing series of paintings depicting the park and its visitors. She also painted in Argentina, Mexico, France and other parts of the world. Metzger had over 20 one-woman shows.
